Ecuador
1918
Ecuadorian comics grew out of political caricature, which has long outweighed sequential comics in local newspapers and magazines.
Quito cartoonists such as Carlos Andrade Moscoso, Guillermo Latorre and Enrique Terán launched the weekly Caricatura in 1918, and sequential series began to appear from the 1920s. Panfleto, the first modern comics magazine, came in 1983, followed by the anthology XOX from 1998 to 2000. Since the 2000s independent magazines, fanzines and graphic memoirs, including Power Paola's Virus Tropical, have carried the scene.

Imported comics and the first national strips
Newspapers ran US strips from the 1940s, and from the 1960s the country imported children's and adult comics magazines, many printed in Mexico, such as Kalimán. Nelson Jácome published Don Canuto in 1961, which Spanish Wikipedia calls the first national comic strip, and J.D. Santibáñez drew El Gato for El Universo in 1978.

The self-published Ecuador Ninja came in 1984 and Secreciones del Mojigato, with the cartoonist Bonil, in 1988. The Quito anthology XOX ran from 1998 to 2000 before printing costs and the economic crisis ended it.
