In short

Macedonian comics began in the children's press right after liberation, when Slavko Janevski published Eden bunker padna in Pioner on 3 January 1945.

The satirical paper Osten and the dailies Večer and Nova Makedonija later carried comic strips, most famously Darko Marković's daily Pecko from 1981. From the 1980s the youth press, the group Tuš laboratorija and magazines such as Makstrip (1989) and Lift (1995) brought new authors, and in 1999 Aleksandar Sotirovski's Captain Nitrate became the first comics album by a Macedonian author.
